Welcome to AMV AUTO LLC where we help you the consumer master the process of car buying and car ownership.
Finding a solid reliable car that’s inexpensive is definitely not an easy task.
Well let’s face it even a bicycle can cost as much as $5,000 These days, but if you do some careful searching and know what to look for, there are definitely some really decent cars that you can find for under $5,000 They’ll provide you with reliable service and not cost you a fortune in maintenance and repairs as they age.
If all you need is a simple, dependable car and you only have $5,000 to spend without question your search needs to start with the Toyota Corolla.
- TOYOTA COROLLA
The Corolla is the best selling car of all time and there’s an extremely good reason for that.
It is exceptionally good at fulfilling its purpose of getting from point A to point B as reliably as possible.
These things can easily last for up to 15 years or longer without having any serious mechanical repairs And it’s not difficult to find one for a reasonable price that still has plenty of life left in it.
Another great choice for a small economical car is the Honda Civic which also has a great reputation for reliability and build quality.
But the Corolla is my go to choice and first recommendation to my clients because its purpose is reliable and inexpensive transportation and that’s what it does exceptionally well better than almost any other small car. The only issue with the Corolla is because it’s such a desirable use car the prices can be quite high, which means that whatever you find for under $5,000 could be quite old with high mileage And that is exactly what makes car number two such a good choice.
which is the
- PONTIAC VIBE
Now I know what you might be thinking but hear me out because the vibe is actually just a Corolla in disguise.
It shares the exact same platform parts and full drive train with the Toyota Matrix, which is basically just a hatchback version of the Toyota Corolla.
but because most shoppers are unaware of this little known fact, and the fact that Pontiacs are just overlooked overall on the used car market The Pontiac Vibe is actually a really good buy.
You can find them for very reasonable prices with good mileage that still have plenty of life left in them.
Now if you want something a little bit larger and more comfortable for under $5,000. You do have some really good options, including the
The Honda Accord has a fantastic reputation for long term reliability. It’s an inexpensive car to own with low repair and maintenance costs. And it’s very easy to get one with plenty of life left in it for under $5,000.
Now so far I’ve only looked at irregular cars and sedans because they seem to be the best buys for a small budget.
SUVs tend to be expensive and whatever you find in the form of an SUV for under $5,000 is most likely going to be mostly worn out in need of serious repair and could just turn into an expensive Money Pit.
If you just have to have an SUV though there are a few decent options for a small budget and one of them is the
- Ford Escape
The first generation escape built up to 2012 was a very simple and fairly reliable SUV.
They’re easy to work on mechanics are familiar with them and parts availability is not a problem.
. Now if you want an SUV just have to stick with one of the reputable Japanese brands such as a Honda or Toyota your best bet in finding a good one for under $5,000 is to look at the more overlooked models that are off the radar of most people.
One great example of this is the
- HONDA ELEMENT
Although the element was never nearly as popular as the CRV the fact that it’s largely been forgotten means that you can find them for amazing prices on the used car market.
It’s definitely a bit of an oddball choice and there’s not a whole lot of them out there when compared to some of the other models, but the owners that have them are crazy about them.
And the element can last for a very long time without needing any serious mechanical repairs.
Now if something like the Honda Element, or Ford Escape still doesn’t have enough space for you then your next best option is to move into a minivan and without question, the best minivan for a small budget of under $5,000 Is the
6. DODGE GRAND CARAVAN
No, The Grand Caravan is not quite as well built as the comparable Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, but it is an extremely good value for money and a solid choice Overall.
Dodge has been making these for what seems like forever and has been keeping most of the parts more or less the same. That means that most of the kinks have been worked out over the years to the point where the caravan is actually a fairly reliable minivan.
They are easy to repair easy to work on parts are plentiful and there are plenty of choices on the used car market.
Although the inexpensive used car market is obviously not limited to these few models.
These are some of the best choices for anyone working with a small budget of under $5,000.
So if you want a simple, reliable car that’s going to get the job done Make sure to start your search with one of these choices.
